Benefits of Lemongrass

Some dishes are incomplete without serai or lemongrass as part of the ingredient. That is a given. Imagine a pot of curry or ayam goreng berempah or sambal nasi lemak without it…bleeh…
Are there any other uses for lemongrass beside enhancing flavours of our cooking? As aromatherapy, it is a natural remedy to reduce body aches, ward of insects, kill bacteria and to help our digestive system.
The compounds that make up lemongrass has other benefits such as anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-insecticidal and anti-septic.
Scent of lemongrass has a light and fresh lemony smell which is stimulating, relaxing, soothing and balancing.
Other common benefits of lemongrass essential oil.
Relieves headaches
Reduces stomach aches
Alleviates abdominal and muscle pain
Kills germs
Acts as an astringent
Reduces fever
Boosts energy
Eases digestive tract spasms
All these while i thought it is only good for cooking. Looks like lemongrass and other herbs and spices contains health and beauty benefits too.
Anyone else have any other benefits to add to this list?

Lemongrass

This afternoon I shared a post about the benefits of lemongrass. One of the benefits is the effect it has on our digestive system.
Guess what? My wife’s friend was experiencing very active bowel movement. She remembered that she has a bottle of lemongrass EO only after her third earth shattering bowel movement. She applied a little to her tummy and felt almost immediate relief to the point that she fell asleep.
Have a look in the comment section for her testimony.
Apart from relieving tummy discomfort, lemongrass also helps with gas and stop the production of gas in the intestine.
Be prepared though for gas releasing situation after applying. Not advisable if you’re on a date or in public.
To keep away mosquito, just diffuse 2 - drops in the bedroom and a good night sleep is in store.
100% pure without chemicals and alcohol. A 10 ml bottle can last between 1 - 2 months…when used as directed…1 week if treated like a bottle of ketchup.
First aid for every household, agree? If you do, let’s chat on messenger or WhatsApp.
Price is RM37 (value for money, don’t you think?). Postage RM8 (WM) and RM12 (EM).

Difference between expensive and value for money

Is Rolls Royce an expensive car? If it is an expensive car, relative to what? What makes it expensive? At the same time, we can also ask what makes it value for money?
The answer depends on the need of the person intending to purchase it. Take for example a successful entrepreneur. Will owning and moving around in a Rolls Royce add value to that person’s reputation and business? Will potential investors think highly of that person and willing to invest in that person’s businesses? If owning a Rolls Royce does elevates a person’s status and beneficial for business expansion then owning a Rolls Royce in this case is value for money. It is neither cheap nor expensive.
Now don’t go into the tiny details of running a business and about how a potential investor will look beyond a car before making an investment decision. It is merely a point to illustrate how some people will define the meaning of cheap and expensive differently. But come to think of it, if people want to ‘hentam’ me for that also is a good thing. Those comments will increase the engagements for this post thus it will appear on more walls! So on second thoughts, please go ahead and ‘hentam kaw kaw’.
Advertisement over, back to main story.
A few weeks back my wife approached an acquaintance who happen to suffer from eczema. She introduce an essential oil blend formulated specially for eczema and other skin diseases. The price is RM47 including postage.
Her acquaintance finds that expensive, by RM13.50, compared to the cream she is presently using. Fair enough if comparing prices alone. Eczema cream contains steroid, however. There are several possible side effects for prolonged use of steroid. Thinning of the skin, thickening of the skin, stretch marks and skin darkening.
RM13.50 savings per purchase in exchange for those side effects? Looking at this, is the EO blend which is 100% natural with no side effects still considered expensive or value for money?

Starting again at 47

Ever wondered what is like having to start all over again when you are almost approaching the half century mark in you life? That is the thought going through my mind right now as I sit at the dinning table with wife having a bowl of instant noodle as her brunch and my son sitting on the couch right behind me.

As the husband and father of this family the responsibility of providing for this family falls squarely on my shoulder. I used to be able to provide them with a comfortable life before becoming a member of the unemployment club. How I came to this stage? In a nutshell, silly mistakes and greed, all mine, is the cause of my trip down this road I'm presently on. The details? That's a story for another time.

The journey began about two years ago when I decide to resign from my rather well paying job two years ago. Since then, I've tried my hand at running a food stall, two to be exact. Results? Nah... not a happy ending on this one. Our day starts at about 7 in the morning and usually end around midnight. Hardly make enough to make ends meet. Thankfully I had some financial assistance from my aunt which helped to put food on the table. She is like the mother i never had.

In order to save cost we sleep in the hall to reduce electricity consumption. No more enjoying our sleep in the comfort of an air-conditioned room. Not a big deal actually. That's how my wife and I grew up, with minimal luxury and that is how the children sleeps at grandma's house.

Besides that there are other adjustments we have made to accommodate whatever little budget we have. Our priority is putting food on the table. Eating out used to be norm previously but for the past two years or so that became a luxury, even a simple meal at the mamak. There are times when the children wants to dine at fast food joints but of course request was declined most of the time, unless they buy it with their own money which they either saved up from their pocket money, which is not much or given by relatives during visits or festive seasons.

In the early days we had to resort to selling our phone, watches and jeweleries for survival and use it as capital to start our food business. Simply put, whatever that we can sell was sold.

That is when I realise that a phone is just a phone, no matter what brand or model and a watch a just a watch, no matter what brand or model. As long as it performs the function of what it is intended for that's fine albeit some limitations when it comes to phones. The watch taught me something though. My reasonably priced watch around my wrist functions just as well as my previous expensive watch. This experience leads me to conclude that the brand is nothing more than an extension of our ego, unless you're a diver or a hiker/mountain climber. Expensive branded stuff are nothing more than an expansion of our ego.

Two years later our financial situation is still the same. My wife started her own online business whereby she has to attend a 20 days training on the subject of selling on social media. This course is quite something. Relaxed and light hearted interaction is the key to gain exposure on social media. We are really excited about this new venture. We want to see how far we can stretch our mind to adapt to this fluid era of social media. Brings to mind a mind expanding book titled 'Who moved my cheese'. I strongly suggest everyone to read it.

This is where my journey begins. You are welcome to join me.
